Say ‘mahsh’ (rhymes with squash). One of the hardiest of winter greens, this tender salad green can take cold temperatures and frost with no problem. It has a mild, nutty flavor. Harvest leaves or whole plants before it goes to flower.
Sow in fall or early spring. Succession sow for continuous harvest in mild weather.
Seeds sprout best in cool moist soil.
